I read X-Men often as a kid in the 80s and 90s. More recently, I read a little of X-Men Gold, X-Men Blue, and Phoenix Resurrection, but those series never captured me for prolonged reading or interest. Uncanny X-Men 1, in a way, is the same old song and dance with the endless concept of humans fearing mutants, but it feels like how an X-Men book should be.

Being an oversized 72 page book, it gives the story a good jumpstart with pretty much a mini graphic novel. I like how the characters’ powers are displayed and their interaction with each other. While not all online reviews are good and nothing was earth shattering in this book, it feels like Uncanny and not just another color.
